You can download Sony Picture Motion Browser PMB for the W120 from the link below; this allows you to connect the camera to your PC, view and edit photos, etc. There are no other drivers required.

I like the idea of Panoramic images but when I download them to the computer

with PMB they end up only 2 inches tall.

Is there a way of expanding them up and down but still keeping the length

Thank You

Unfortunately there s no way of switching between NTSC and PAL.

Most manufacturers make cameras for specific markets in order to comply with standards in those markets; in the US the standard is NTSC, in Europe it s PAL. You do have to be careful when buying to make sure you re getting a model specific to that region. It s not region protection as such, the camera actually works in a different way.

All I can suggest is that you try a different NTSC PAL converter, there are many around, some of them freeware. Conversion software can be a little hit-and-miss but it is just a question of finding something that works

It looks like the sort of flare you d expect with the sun shining into the lens, made more visible by the Backlight setting.

It might well be present if you took the same shot using manual settings, but as Backlight blends much brighter exposures to lighten dark foregrounds with darker ones to help keep backgrounds from burning out you will occasionally get this ghosted flare somewhere in the frame when the sun s in the wrong place.

Avoiding it takes a little preparation. Obviously keeping the sun to one side is always preferable to having it shine into the lens, but this isn t always possible.

It will be much less likely to happen with the lens zoomed in; wide-angle shots will exacerbate the effect, so step back if you can and re-frame.

Also if the flare spot ends up being on a bright part of the image, it won t be anywhere near as noticeable as it is in your example above, where the darker shaded parts of the window show it up. You might be able to see this on the screen as you re taking the shot and perhaps move a little to one side, which will affect the placement of the spot.

One thing I would say is that it can happen with any camera/lens/mode combination; I don t think this is a problem with the HX9 as such.

Hope that s of some help

Hello perdantice178 - welcome to the Sony Forums

Have you tried removing the battery for a few moments and seeing if this rectifies the problem. If it still persists and the battery is charged up this may indicate a fault with the camera.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi sphinxxxxx,

Thanks for posting on the sony forums and sorry you haven t found the answers you were looking for. I appreciate it must be frustrating but the forum is  actually set up as a user forum that Sony has made available for their customers  to share opinions and tips about their products. It isn t a means to get in contact directly with Sony. I would suggest to contact Sony directly if you aren t getting useful feedback here.

You can find all the contact details here:

Hope that helps and you get an answer or some useful advice soon.

Many thanks for the answers so far. Yes I have found the sharpening routine in the menu and I am currently experimenting with the variations.

Have only had the camera a couple of weeks or so and so far have been blown away by the results. My only concern has been the shooting of fast moving subjects, which appeared come out somewhat blurred. However I have now found the Sports Mode and that appears to have solved the problem.

As they say If all else fails, read the manual, though I have to say the subject details are very poor, with just a very basic description of the various functions. The on-line version, as previously mentioned is much better.

I find the Full HD video is virtually equal to normal broadcast television. and a far cry from the days of Hi-8 tapes..

All in all a superb camera for the money and I may well sell my Nikon DSLR on, as I haven t used it since the DSC-HX9v arrived.

Hello marienivision - welcome to the Sony Forums

Mark 2 means that the memory card can be written to at a faster rate which, on some cameras, allows a shorter time between taking images. From a video point of view, it allows movie clips to be recorded at a higher overall quality as it allows a faster flow of data onto the card.

Hey Chris, I noticed you wrote, I can see the card and the files on it on my Mac but they are greyed, so I can t get at them

You shouldn t need to directly view the greyed-out. mts files in order to get them into iMovie. Just launch iMovie and connect up your camera; click the camera icon in iMovie and either automatically or manually select the clips you want to view/edit.

This is the only way the mac is able to handle your files, as it has no truly native AVCHD support and won t read. mts files any other way. iMovie uses Quicktime to convert them on-the-fly to AIC format. The file decompression involved in this makes quite large files, so I d suggest using iMovie on manual until you get used to it.

On the issue of HD, the AIC conversion will slightly downsample your clips by default, although there are ways of making it work with HD. This Apple Support thread is rather long but well worth a read: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2620458.start 0 tstart 0

Incidentally, given the file sizes involved, I d recommend using Disk Utility to make a Disk Image copy of your entire card, rather than store the uncompressed AIC files see the end of that thread and if you do wish to work with 1080p in iMovie, grab a big 2Tb external hard drive first.

Does the Compass only work when GPS is on.

Does the Compass only work when GPS is on.

I have a DSC HX7V - do I have to switch on the GPS function in order to get the compass to work, or can I set it independently.

Thanks

Hi teejays, welcome to the Sony Forums

I m not certain how the compass works, but I can t imagine it would funtion without GPS being enabled, as this will almost certainly be provinding the direction data, as well as position.

Hello RenatoT - welcome to the Sony Forums

If nothing is obstructing the microphone and you are still getting no sound, the microphone itself may have been damaged. Do you get sound when you playback on the camera or on a TV screen.

Multi Output Stand

Multi Output Stand

Where can I get a DC in lead for a TX7 Camera  Multi Output Stand. Tried E Bay, Google etc, no luck. Apppreciate any suggestion or info.

Hello denbos - welcome to the Sont Forums

Could you let me know the model number / part number for the stand so that I can have a look for a compatible lead. This should be printed somewhere as a label on the stand itself.

Hello again

Thanks for the extra info. I am going to get a second opinion on this as I am having difficulty locating the necessary part. As soon as I hear anything, I will let you know.

denbos

Multi-output stand 4.2V and thats all. Any help.

Hi,

I have recently bought the above mentioned camera and taken some videos with it.

I have uploaded them onto my MacBook through iMovie, however I can t upload them for anyone to see. I have tried using Facebook, Youtube and Hotmail, all of which have not worked. Youtube said that it could not convert the file.

The files are in. mov, I have tried using a converter but that also does not work either.

Please can someone help me figure this out.

Matt

Hello wihucke11 - welcome to the Sony Forums

The majority of warranties are for twelve months only unless an extended warranty was taken out at the time of purchase. If you don t have any warranty info, then it will probably be the standard twelve months.

It does sound like there is a hardware fault with the camera and I would advise you to call Sony Customer Services to try and find out how much a repair will cost. There is an informative thread which will tell you everything you need to know:

Hello DSC-HX1 - welcome to the Sony Forums

When looking for compatible batteries, I would advise you to type a search like DSC-HX1 Battery into a major retailer s site like Amazon. Doing this will give you a selection of both official and unofficial batteries that are compatible and so you can make your own decision.

Hello romclel37 - welcome to the Sony Forums

If you have definitely tried every possible flash setting and it still won t function correctly, it may need to be assessed for a repair. If you have had the camera for less than 12 months it may be covered by the warranty and so it would probably be best to contact the Customer Services team at Sony. If it is more than a year old they will be able to advise you about possible repair costs.

There is a useful forum thread relating to getting in touch with Sony and it is located here:

Hi GeoMac13, welcome to the Sony Forums

Bravia HDMI control is not really my department, but I suspect that might be possible. Have a look at this: – hope it s of some help.

I have a Cybershot T300 with the same problem. It started vibrating 2 weeks ago and was unuseable. Shame, because I really like the camera.

I went on a family holiday and took the camera on instinct forgetting about the problem - when I turned it on it vibrated for about 5 minutes and then stopped so I thought it had somehow rectified itself but the pictures are now rubbish, the pictures appear fine when I view on the camera but they overlap each other when downloaded to a pc I have tried 3 different computers, all with the same issue. I am buying a new memory card to see if it s just the card that now been corrupted.

I did an internet search on the issue and as S-FAMILY posted previously, there s plenty of posts about this happening in the US, they also seem to have had Sony acknowledge this issue and it needs to be serviced and offer a free fix which ran out in July this year but I too can find nothing about the support for this in the UK as yet. There are also quite a few individuals offering advice on taking the camera apart and reglueing the anti-vibration unit but I m not keen to do that.

Would be great to know a UK solution.

Helo Doug

I think that you are referring to the 3D picture mode of the camera. In this setting, the camera takes two shots and then merges them together to create an image that can be viewed in 3D on a compatible TV or monitor. This mode and other ones are discussed at various points in the official user manual which is located here:

For 3D in particular, the information about turning various picture modes on and off can be found starting on page 19.

I have used the WX7 for two months now - it s great and I really do like it,  but when reading on the internet and come across other sources some state the camera records 60FPS videos out of Europe and the UK..

Could you include a firmware update to those who want it to include 60FPS video recording for British/UK WX7 cameras.

This camera was supposed to be a replacement for my Panasonic camera which came from Hong Kong and according to the format it worked on all my playback sources with out any problems so if that could be addressed then i ll be happy.

Kind Regards,

- Harri

Hi Maria, welcome to the Sony Forums

I suspect Picasa is the problem, not your camera, as it needs a particular codec to reproduce audio tracks for some users and Windows often lacks these.

Try installing a full set of codecs on your PC. If you Google K-Lite codec pack you should find a number of sites offering these for free. Often the most basic pack does the trick.

In the meantime, if you can hear an audio track on your camera s built-in speaker, it s defiitely recording correctly, so it should be just fine on the big day

Hello tillydown - welcome to the Sony Forums

Occasionally, unplugging a USB device from it s power source ie. the PC can damage the device - usually there is a higher chance of this happening if there is data being transferred or if the PC is trying to access the camera at the time of unplugging. As your oops suggests, it is always best to use the icon in the bottom right hand corner to shut down the device before removing it from your PC.

The first thing to try is plugging the camera into its regular power source / mains charger to see if this allows you to turn the camera back on. If it still will not work after this, you may have damaged the camera itself and I would advise you to contact Sony customer services to go through your options, such as a repair if necessary.

There is a forum thread which tells you everything you need to know about contacting Sony and it can be found here:

Simon.
